Goodbye old friend,
You , who had stood straight,
Through all the years,
Peeping into my window
Greeting me
Nonchalantly
I looked at you
And looked through you
A constant reminder
Of being there
Weathering storms
Each one
That came our way
The summer breeze
The winter chill
You
Stood with pride
Nesting birds
Holding sway
Keeping a watch
Over your terrain
You stood
6 floors tall
My mighty tree
My friend of yore
I weep for you…
As you lie
Face down
On.the ground
Where you
Held sway
Done in
By the howling rains
The swirling dust
The cruel force
I saw you battling
For the longest time
Even as Amphan lashed on
I thought you and I
Would see
The wind blow away
Who would know
That was not to be
Last I saw you
When.the lights went out
And now you lie
Spent
Done
Gone
Goodbye my friend
I have to wish you adieu
You remain in my heart
Just out of view
My fallen tree
I can only see
An empty space
Where you used to be…
For the Palm Tree that had always been there from my earliest memories and felll to the might of Amphan…
For the 5000 trees lost to Kolkata in the cyclone
The pic was taken on another stormy cloudy evening
